RIP Don Davis

Don Davis, who played the cantankerous father-figure of the Stargate SG-1, Major General George Hammond, passed away on June 29. We'll always remember Davis' terrific performance as the dad-like presence who yelled when he had to and made Teal'c roll his eyes with his bad jokes.

SG-1's producer, Joe Mallozzi shared that his favorite memory of Davis' was watching him work the conventions with fans. Many fans approached the General with trepidation (because of his character) but Davis was always incredibly charming with the fans and won them over immediately. Mallozzi also added that Davis was a true friend and, "had a bigger heart than his character that he played... and will be missed not just by the fans but by everyone who worked with him."

Davis' last Stargate appearance will be in the DVD movie Stargate: Continuum. We'll miss you always setting the crew straight, Don.

Busy at work, just a quick note...

Got my Annual Review this morning...best darn review I've ever had. Not one negative thing on it. Woot!

On top of that, I get a 4% raise, which bumps me over the $20 an hour mark.

Came in today to cube decorations. What impressed me more though was the card envelopes. The cards inside were standard and signed by the team, but Trish went way overboard with the envelopes. Both are printed with WOW images, one a map of Azeroth and the other a bridge in the Ghostlands. Very cool.

CHICAGO - Barack Obama effectively clinched the Democratic presidential nomination Tuesday, the Associated Press reported, citing its tally of convention delegates. He would become the first black candidate ever to lead a major U.S. party into a fall campaign for the White House.

NBC News has been maintaining its own tally, which stood at Obama being 30.5 delegates short of the 2,118 needed.

I was just walking around downstairs on my break and noticed that already the mood around my area of downtown has changed. There are lots and lots of young people walking around and quite a few in costume.

Last night elf044and I were sitting in bed and watching TV before we went to sleep. We happened to run acrosss Spike TV's "Star Wars Sunday" running of A New Hope. We caught it just as they were about to launch the Battle of Yavin.

She still screams, shivers and laughs in all the right places. She enjoys that movie as much (or more) than I do since I tend to disect it more.

God I love this woman.

Prometric can bite my ass

Woke up this morning and checked my email. Lo and behold what do I find? An email from Prometric saying that they have canceled my exam.

So I call my local testing center, they don't know anything about it. The manager gives me a number for corporate. In the meantime I try to reschedule online and it tells me that I can't reuse my voucher. Lovely. It also tells me that my original date is booked up, and that in order to get a test at something other than ass-crack of the morning I have to reschedule for May 24.

By this time, I'm truely bent. It doesn't help matters when Salam of India answers the corporate line and immediately asks me to go on hold so that she can "set up her system". WTF is that all about. So I sit on hold for 4 min while she apparently has a cup of coffee and boots up her computer. Is it just me, or is this something you should do BEFORE you start answering the phone?

She proceeds to reschedule the exam. The only thing she is able to do that the website could not is re-use my voucher. Otherwise she is as friendly and helpful as a government employee.

After we get done rescheduling for the 24th, I ask her why this all happened. She says that she can't find out without calling the testing center. I tell her that's no good cause that's where I got her number and they don't know squat. We go round and round with this. Eventually I ask to speak to her supervisor.

Magically her supervisor knows that seat #4 in the testing center where I was scheduled broke down. That happens to be the seat I was assigned, and anyone in that seat was forced to reschedule. Why the super knew that and could read it from a screen while Salam the wonder chimp could not is beyond me.

Not a good way to start my morning.

This morning I logged into WiiTracker.com and finally found a Wii on sale for it's retail price of $250. A quick glance at my bank account, and 10 min later I have a Wii ordered!

Yee Haw! Finally I'll get to play with one of these game systems for more than just a few minutes at a friend's house.

Thank goodness I have a birthday coming up, I want a ton of accessories for this system. :)

Wow, what a great weekend!

Friday Night: Got off work and headed to Storm's place. It's been a long time since I've gotten to just hang out with "the guys". I was there until 2am.  Crashed when I got home with happy thoughts.

Saturday: I spent the morning cooking Kugel for a Passover gathering later that day at sage_angel's  house. Not being Jewish myself, I've never had Kugel, so this was an interesting challenge. Since I didn't know what was the "right way", I cooked 3 different kinds. :)
I didn't get any complaints, and I did get a few compliments on the Kugel, so I guess I win. The rest of the Sader went very well. The food was excellent (which is saying something for me) and I even enjoyed the gefilte fish. Stayed up late again Saturday night chatting with friends and relaxing.

Sunday: Elf044 and I had planned to go to the Main St. Art's Festival in Ft. Worth on Sunday. However, two long days and Mt. Laundry combined to form an inescapable urge to stay home and veg. Well, not veg exactly. I spent most of the day ripping Windows Vista off my computer and reinstalling Windows XP SP2 and all the applications, updates and patches I needed to get my computer working again. Fortunately I learned from my last experience and this time my reinstall went much smoother.

This week at work is "Jeans week" as some kind of reward for completing the Employee Survey. No sweat, I did that on the first day they gave it to me. I never pass up a chance to give feedback.
